Working alongside students from the University of Rwanda, students from the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna and the local government, the campaign has already castrated over 300 dogs.
In Musanze District, our team was proud to join hands with University of Rwanda veterinary students, students from the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna and the local government for a meaningful community campaign focused on canine health and welfare.
Together, we carried out a large-scale field programme and successfully castrated more than 300 dogs — and the work continues. The campaign reflects the power of collaboration when institutions, students and communities come together around a shared purpose.
This mission is about much more than medicine. It is about improving animal welfare, strengthening public health and building a safer future for both people and animals. Responsible dog population management plays an important role in reducing suffering, limiting uncontrolled breeding and creating healthier communities.
The programme also created a valuable learning environment, allowing veterinary students to participate in practical field work under professional supervision while contributing directly to a real community need.
We are grateful to every partner involved in this initiative. Community-centred veterinary action like this helps demonstrate that better animal health and better public health go hand in hand.
